While compiling the list, I’ve found a handful of examples that, while not exactly fitting for this list, may also be worth checking out if you’re curious!
So, here’s a couple of game dev collectives dedicated to making small games, as well as some examples of very successful games of similar scope in other platforms (more on the “big hit” side):
- Most early games made by the Sokpop Collective are solo games made in 2 months, amounting to 2 games a month for 2 years, to varying commercial success. Some of them are in the list, but the reason why I didn’t add ALL 100+ of them is because they’d absolutely flood the list with Sokpop games. But if you’re looking for a massive amount of examples of solo games made in a short time with a very particular style, this is it!
- The collective PUNKCAKE delicieux has also developed several monthly games as a small team, with their most known being Shotgun King. Also check them out for a bunch of other small-scale games!
- 2048 was developed over a weekend as a clone of another game (1024) that, itself, was a clone of another game (Threes).
- The initial version of Roblox’s Grow a Garden was apparently developed by an anonymous 16-year-old in 3 days.
